IS YOUR TRAINER QUALIFIED?

Fitness Australia monitors adherence to industry standards of service, care and safety through the registration of exercise professionals and businesses.

The National Exercise Professional Registration Scheme sets an industry standard, encouraging best practice for the industry and its professionals. Registration with Fitness Australia is the benchmark for fitness industry professional standards across Australia and internationally.

Fitness Australia registers in excess of 20,000 exercise professionals and has a strong interest in maintaining and improving standards across Australia for the benefit of the fitness industry. Fitness Australia registration is recognised as your 'licence to practise' as a exercise professional.

Registered exercise professionals have attained a minimum Certificate III in Fitness qualification and are generally employed or contracted by registered fitness businesses or are self-employed within the fitness industry.

Registration gives exercise professional industry credibility, portability and protection.

Personal Trainers have achieved a higher level of certification and registration - with a minimum of Certificate 4 required. Personal Trainers are required, as are other fitness professionals, to update their qualifications regularly to maintain currency by attending courses & workshops.

Always ask whether your trainer is qualified, and registered to engage in the fitness activity they are providing. Boxing requires further certification, as does many specialised aspects of Personal Training and Group Fitness.

In addition to Fitness Australia, each state including queensland has a Fitness Industry Code of Practice set out by the office of Fair Trading. The QLD Fitness Industry Code of Practice 2003 has clear guidelines for fitness centres and fitness professionals. The code of practice is available at the following link.
